What I learnt from our ‘30 Brands in 30 Days Challenge’

I can’t quite believe that our 30 Brands in 30 Days Challenge is over, what a journey it’s been!

With so many highs and so many lows, here’s the ultimate low-down of how it really was behind the scenes and the top 5 things I learned through the process.

It may have seemed like this challenge was easy-breezy if you were tuning in each day on Instagram to watch the latest brand reveal reel we posted. But… behind the scenes it was slightly more chaotic.

Summer had been a little quieter on the enquiries than usual (which is fairly normal due to everyone taking annual leave), so I thought what better way to get things back into motion than to set myself a design challenge for the month of September/October.

However, by the time I had come up with the challenge, prepped my process and started brainstorming ideas for brands and names, I found myself starting it the 1st of October. Which was absolutely fine, until things started picking up again and without realising I had signed 3 client projects all with the end date of the 20th October.

To say juggling client work and the brand challenge was easy would be a total lie - looking back I’m not sure how I finished everything on time. But, I’m proud to say I managed and only took 1 ‘day off’ the brand challenge (around number 23) to rest and recuperate.

Here are the top 5 things I learned from the challenge:

1. Being consistent becomes a habit

My process when designing brand #1 looked very different from the process when designing brand #30. Things changed, things evolved, but ultimately I became consistent with each step of the process that from brand #6 to #30, my process was the same.

When you are consistent, the easier everything becomes and the more you want to stick to being consistent. I didn’t want to ‘break’ the cycle!

2. The more you do, the easier it gets

The first few days were consumed with me working on each brand for over 5 hours, even though my original plan was to spend about 2 hours a day on designing the brand. This included working really late nights after prioritizing client work, sometimes until 11pm. However, the last brand of this challenge I came up with the concept, name, brand foundations, brand design, social media assets, mockups and blurb for instagram in about 1.5 hours.

3. I’m actually a pretty good designer

With practice comes confidence. The more brands I designed, the more confident I got and as a result started to believe more in my design skills. I realised I’m actually a pretty good designer.

I realise my actual design skills probably didn’t grow hugely but we are what we think, which brings me to...

4. Manifestation is real...

Manifesting! Yes, it's currently a trendy term, but for many of the brands I created, my ultimate goal was to draw the attention of businesses in these industries and work with them.

On day #9 of the challenge, I designed a wedding planner business, a few days later, I got an enquiry from a wedding planner to design her brand.

Coincidence or manifestation?

5. I am capable of achieving my goals

I truly didn’t know whether I’d be able to pull off this challenge. There was no guarantee, just a fire in my belly to achieve my goals. I hadn’t done any challenge that was similar in the past and I also hadn’t seen anyone else on social media do this before.

I achieved my goals and so much more... and I’m pretty proud of how far I’ve come and proud of all the brands I designed!
